How I Stopped Blogging

*ahem*

Anyone still here?

Have you ever had one of those days where you were going through your "normal" routine and you stopped in the middle of your day and you thought to yourself, "I'm not feeling *insert chore* today.  It can wait till tomorrow"? Well, that was how I stopped blogging.

I just decided, one day, that I didn't want to blog that particular day and so I didn't.  The same thing happened for twenty-one consecutive days.  I found other things to do than sit at a computer and pound away at a keyboard.  I started going outside and doing yard work during L's nap times.  I started reading books after L went to bed instead of getting on the computer.  I simply just let the blog go.

I let it go because I needed to think without the monotony of a routine or the click of the keys on the keyboard.

I let it go because my brain was so full of blog junk that it was keeping me awake at night.

I let it go because I needed to be able to think about other things that I wanted to do with my life other than this blog.

Life & Leopard isn't going away.  It's not even in transition.  It, and I, are still here, we are just quiet.  We are thinking.  We are contemplating.  We are brainstorming.  We are delegating responsibilities.  We are taking some of the weight off of our shoulders and our minds.

I will return in August, but my postings will be less.  I will be dropping down to 1-2 posts a week and opening up Life & Leopard for guest posters.  (So, if you want to write a beauty/fashion post, email me!) This strategy will allow me to work on another avenue that I am passionate about and perhaps allow me to sleep through the night without waking up with random phrases in my head and my fingers on fire.

I think I have ignored it long enough.

See you all in August with more fashion and beauty love!

  1. It's always good to take sometime off! Like taking a vacation from blogging you know?

    1. I spent a lot of time on our house-which was amazing! We have lived here for a little over a year now and I was tired of it feeling like we still rented. We've started work on redesigning the existing landscaping and I got my living room painted! My goal is to have the rest of the rooms done by mid-Fall! I felt like my brain needed a break. It needed to concentrate on other things than the blog. I feel much better now and I can't wait to get back to writing here! Thanks for the kind words Dina!

  2. I totally understand! I used to have two blogs, but was quickly heading for burnout. So I gave my secondary blog to a friend, and now just concentrate on one blog. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders now, and am much happier being able to spend more time with my family. Running a blog is a job, and I think vacations should be a part of it, just like a job one would have outside the home.

    1. I just need some extra time to get the other blog started-that's my issue. I REALLY want to do it, so I know it will get done, I just needed the extra brain power, I guess. LOL! Thanks for your kind words, April!

  6. Oh Sarah! I do share your situation, as well as MANY bloggers and writers...my kids come first in my life and as soon as I noticed my writing started seeping into my family time - I literally had to do what you did. I am passionate about writing, and my children. So, I've been saving writing time for nights when they're in bed...then I take a Melatonin and drift off myself. So far, my new routine is working great! Looking forward to your future posts!

  7. I totally relate, the last couple of weeks I've really felt overwhelmed. I've been spending less and less time on the PC and actually had a couple of days where I haven't even picked it up, I should be pushing my posts on social media, but I just need a break! Having a break is good!

  9. Writing is difficult to sustain for months on end. Creativity comes in spurts and sporadically. I feel for full time writers...it is a difficult job. Blogging is fun, but you shouldn't have to force it. If it comes naturally, then go with it.
