Fear (Blogtember: Day 4)

Today's Prompt:
A story about a time you were very afraid.

Hmmm, I don't think I have ever had a time in my life when I was very afraid.  I've not had any near-death experiences (thankfully) and I've never been hospitalized for anything critical.

I suppose, then, that the only thing that actually scared me was becoming a mother.

Throughout my entire pregnancy (and still today)  I fear that I am a horrible mother.  When I was pregnant, I tried my best to prepare myself to be patient and not quick-tempered.  While I have gotten a bit better, I am still the mom that, when pushed far enough, will lose my cool and L gets a time out in her room.  I, too, take a time out, in another part of the house.  I try not to punish her when I am at that point.  I simply just put her in her room and walk away.  I need a few precious moments to think, get centered, and then go back to assess the situation.

My mom can probably tell you how many times I have text her or told her that being a mom is hard.  She agrees, but she keeps telling me it's worth it.

I'm afraid that I am going to fail L as her mother.  I'm afraid I won't be there enough for her, or in fact, too much and smother the poor kid to death.  I'm afraid that my body image issues will be passed on to her and I don't want that.  I try to not say anything badly about myself in front of her, but I just don't know what she picks up on and doesn't.

However, I know I am not alone in this fear.  I know there are countless other mothers who are out there, thinking the same things as I.  We are all in this together.  We have to do the best we can.  We are in charge of nurturing and molding these little human beings into productive citizens and that is scary.

I have come to realize that the fear will always be there-that I am not good enough or that I am doing something wrong in regards to L.  I try to start each day as a brand new day and not let any of yesterday's temper tantrums, outbursts, or incidents carry over into the next day.  I think that helps her and me both for right now.

And, once again, I say.....This being a mom stuff is hard.

Throwback Thursday: Writing Style

Even though I'm doing Blogtember, I still wanted to make sure that everyone got their weekly dose of Throwback Thursday.

I like going through my old writing and picking which one to share with all of you or the week.  What impresses me is that I can remember most of what was going on in my life when a piece of written.  I am bad about journaling, always have been, but my creative writing seems to mark points in time rather well.

Here is another poem this week.  This one was written in the summer of 2010.  This is one of those release pieces; which are things written to mark specific feelings, emotions, etc.

This one is all about letting go of my past.

Untitled
June 4, 2010

So few years lived-
But I feel its been so much more.

From then till now has felt like a lifetime already-
With only certain moments I want to keep.

The rest has been purged
And is awaiting the driver
To take them to their final resting place.
Where they will no longer remind me,
Or haunt me,
Of who and what I once was.

I am a different girl now
And I don’t need those memories,
Reminders,
Haunts,
Ill-fated serenades,
Hanging around my soul.

What’s done is done
That is that
Life moved on
(Too quickly it seems)
I didn’t think it would

In moments of despair
Trial and tribulation
Agony
Emptiness

I survived.

You told me I wouldn't.

You wouldn't recognize me anymore-
I prefer it that way.

Blend in,
Disappear,
Faceless.
Perfect.
Silence.

Words of Wisdom (Blogtember: Day 3)

Today's Prompt:

Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

I am always hesitant to give advice, however, I believe I have a few good pieces of wisdom under my belt from the past ten years of life.  There have been many things that I have taken away from my experiences in this life and I truly believe that I went through those things to help someone else who may need it.  Sometimes we end up being martyr's.  It happens.  That is life.

With all of that being said, the biggest piece of useful advice I have is to live.  Live your life out loud.  Don't be afraid of the naysayers.  Don't talk yourself out of things.  Just be yourself and live.  Do things, see things, experience things.  You are given one life and it is yours to do with as you wish.  Learn from your mistakes.  When you get down, get back up.  Keep going.  Keep living.  Make you proud of yourself.   Love with your whole heart, even if it shatters.  There is beauty in the breakdown.  Rebuild yourself and live some more.  You want to use everything that was instilled in you at birth to it's fullest extent and arrive at the end of your life completely spent of all that was given you.

That is a life lived out loud.
